Boat lettering, names and numbers in Pensacola
This is a boat town. Between Pensacola Bay, Santa Rosa Sound, Perdido Key and the Gulf, there are more boats than driveways, and every one of them needs registration numbers, most get a name, and the good-looking ones have graphics. Gator Grafix cuts and installs boat lettering in marine-grade vinyl that handles salt, sun and trailering season after season.
What we do for boats
- Registration numbers — FL numbers cut to the state's size and spacing rules, in a color that reads against your hull.
- Boat names and hailing ports — from simple block lettering to custom scripts with outlines, drop shadows, chrome or metallic vinyl.
- Hull stripes and accent graphics — replace faded factory stripes or add a custom look.
- Charter, guide and commercial boats — business names, phone numbers and logos sized to be read across the water.
- Partial and full hull wraps — printed graphics for a complete color change or a one-of-a-kind design. See our wrap services.
- Trailers, jet skis and kayaks — the same materials, applied to whatever you tow or paddle.
Marine-grade materials
Boat lettering lives a harder life than a truck door: constant UV, salt spray, bilge cleaners and the occasional scrape against a dock. We use premium cast vinyl rated for marine use, with high-performance adhesive that bonds to gelcoat and aluminum. Printed graphics get a marine laminate. Properly installed, the lettering will look good for years and will not leave a ghost on the gelcoat when it is time to change it.
Installation
Bring the boat on its trailer to our shop at 8447 Pensacola Blvd. Registration numbers and names are usually done the same day. The hull needs to be clean and dry; we handle the measuring, leveling and alignment so both sides match. For larger vessels or boats in the water, ask about dockside installation around Pensacola and Gulf Breeze.
Replacing old numbers and names
Buying a used boat usually means someone else's name on the transom and registration numbers that no longer match. We remove old vinyl with heat and a plastic scraper, lift the adhesive with a citrus remover that is safe on gelcoat, and polish out the ghost outline the old letters leave behind before the new lettering goes on. Painted-on names are harder; bring the boat by and we will tell you what is possible.
Readability on the water
A name that looks great on the screen can vanish at 100 feet. Thin script fonts, light colors on white hulls and low-contrast metallics all disappear in the glare off the bay. We favor bold fonts, a contrasting outline and letter heights sized for the length of the boat, and we will show you a mock-up at the actual scale before cutting.
Design help included
Not sure about the font or the colors? Send us a photo of the boat and the name, and our designers will mock up a few options on your hull. We will tell you which colors still read at a distance and which will disappear against a white hull in bright sun.
